I don’t know what exactly you are doing that you said the server doesn’t accept it. In any case, you can use the command passwd to set kali’s password, then you can install Empire.

Maybe you are the one who need to watch the lectures carefully, Zaid clearly said that a password for kali needs to be created. Also, that password has nothing to do with connecting using a key. Here’s a screenshot of the exact moment in the lecture where Zaid mentioned it: (in the subtitles the word kali is misunderstood for Cal)
