Ransomware
What is Ransomware?
A type of malware that encrypts a victim’s data and demands a ransom payment to restore access.
Expanded Explanation
Ransomware attacks typically spread through phishing emails or malicious downloads. Once inside a system, the ransomware encrypts important files and displays a ransom note with instructions for payment, often in cryptocurrency. Some variants also exfiltrate data to increase pressure. Preventative measures include regular backups, email filtering, and endpoint protection.
